Volleyball defeats Lake Travis; improves 4-0 in District play

Away from home in front of a raucous crowd, varsity volleyball defeated district rival Lake Travis Sept. 19 in straight sets 25-17, 25-21, 25-18.

“It definitely gives us some confidence,” said senior Holly Campbell, who had recently returned from competing with the u18 national team in Argentina. “This was a huge win for us, one of the biggest in District, so it feels pretty good.”

Lake Travis had several runs of consistent scoring (which incited a Cavs student section already energized by a close loss in the JV game), but Westlake maintained control of the tempo for most of the match.

“We played with great intensity, we served the ball extremely well in game one and it kind of set the tone for the rest of the whole evening,” coach Al Bennett said. “Our goal at this point is to get in the playoffs, then our next goal is to win District. We’re where we wanted to be … we have to take one match at a time.”

The Chaps currently sit at the top of the District with a 4-0 record and will face off against Lehman at 6:30 Sept. 22 at home to try to maintain their position as the District’s only undefeated team.
