Chaps overtake Akins in blow out

On Westlake’s third home game, the Chaps faced Akins in a duel on Oct. 9.

In the midst of their best start in school history (4-2), the Eagles came into the game with hope.

Firing with a strong opening, the Eagles took an early lead in the first quarter to score the first touchdown to bring it to 0-7.

“The coaches were freaking out,” captain senior Brycen Foreman said. “Going into this [game], the whole team kinda knew that we would be fine. When they scored the first touchdown it was a wake up call that we needed to step up our game.”

Not long after that, the Chaps were able to catch fire. Quarterback junior Sam Ehlinger led the team with 297 yards, five touchdowns and one rushing touchdown through the next three quarters.
Eventually leading the team to a 58-19 win, the Chaps were able to rally from an early deficit and defeat the Eagles to bring the team to a 6-0 record.
