Softball brings home Bi-District Champs title

The varsity softball team defeated Round Rock High School in its first round of playoffs on May 1, becoming Bi-District Champs. Senior Lindsey McLeod is now the Westlake single season record holder for strikeouts with 217. She also obliterated the Westlake career record for strikeouts. Lindsey, who committed to playing college ball as a sophomore, will be playing at Sam Houston State in the fall.

“It feels really good to know that I left my mark on the Westlake softball program,” Lindsey said.

The softball team played its final game this season on May 8 against Kingwood High School. The final score was 2-6 after six innings in overtime.

“The first game of our series against Kingwood was rough,” Lindsey said. “The score was 1-11, but I am proud of the way our team bounced back in the second game and fought for 13 innings.”

This year the team played one more round of playoffs than it had last year and finished strong.

“I am very happy with how our season ended and hopeful that we will go even farther next year,” junior Lacey Boyd said.
