Boys golf team en route to State

The boys golf team has had an impressive season so far. The varsity team has won first place in 6 out of their past 7 tournaments and is currently the number one ranked team in the state.

“We’ve really had a great season so far, winning most of our tournaments,” senior Alec Bates said. “It’s a very competitive team, one of the deepest teams that we’ve ever had, with many of our players within a stroke or two of each other.”

The team has one more tournament before they compete in the District tournament on March 25-26 at Roy Kizer Golf Course; and at least for now, the team is confident that they can make it to State.

“We have two teams and we’re pretty good this year so we have a good chance of getting both teams to State,” sophomore Reese Ramsey said. “As long as we show up and play well, we have a pretty good chance of winning.”

Reese, who is currently ranked number one in the state for 6A, is hoping to get an individual win as well. According to Reese, there is some pressure that comes from being ranked first in the state.

“At the beginning of the year, there was definitely some pressure, but now I have learned how to handle myself and I am still striving to play better. Being a sophomore mainly means that I have a lot of time to focus on getting better and I’m looking forward to the opportunity.”
