Sophomore James Helgren plays in the JV game on Jan. 6.

Starting the season off well, JV boys soccer teams, both team A and team B, scrimmaged Pflugerville.
With coach James Baker leading the A team, the boys tied Pflugerville 2-2. The team thought that it would be able to beat Pflugerville with no problem; however, the game turned out not as expected.
“As our first game together as a full team, I couldn’t expect the best straight from the start,” junior Nolan Nesbit said. “The tie was purely indicative of necessary improvement for our team’s future and synergy. Coach Baker gathered the team to reassure us that despite the draw, we would still walk away from the field with lessons of immense value in mind.”
Coach Armando Vazquez captains the B team throughout the year. He lead the team to a 4-0 victory over Pflugerville.
Despite these games only being scrimmages, this was a good test of the season to come while seeing what capabilities each JV team had.
JV A hosts Anderson as District play begins at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at Westlake.
“Anderson always presents a challenge, as they are big and physical,” Baker said. “But it is important to play our way and dictate the game. Our players know what they need to do and will be ready.”
