Girls varsity soccer prepares for upcoming season

The girls varsity soccer team has high hopes for this spring season. They started off the year with a scrimmage on Jan. 3 against San Antonio Reagan, winning 2-0. The team’s roster is 26 strong with eight senior members.
“I’m really excited about [this upcoming season],” captain senior Kendall Ritchie said. “I’m looking forward to it because we have a really great senior class and great underclassmen that are contributing a lot. I think we’re going to have a successful season.”
The team has made it to playoffs for the past three years, but has come up short of claiming the State title every time. Last year, the girls made it to the Regional quarterfinals before losing to Kingwood.
“I think the hardest thing will be once we get into playoffs,” Kendall said. “We have a tendency to get tired [once we get into them], so we’ve been working on being able to finish strong and keep going once we hit the third or fourth round of playoffs.”
Their first District game is against Akins at 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 23 in the stadium.
