Junior Travis Fulcher returns the tennis ball to his Cedar Park opponents on Friday August 29, 2014.

“Overall I think we’re going to do really well this year,” varsity coach Kim Riley said. “This year we had five super-champ freshmen come in and join our team (highest level of USTA play), which bodes really well for our team.”

Returning upperclassmen also have a positive outlook and high hopes for the season.

“This team is unique and full of new talent,” said last year’s State Mixed Doubles Champion senior Fernanda Contreras. “The freshmen are really good this year and add a new depth to the team. I believe we can fight our way to State and win.”

The team’s next match will be against Dripping Springs Sept. 11 at Dripping Springs High School. They will then face Clear Creek at home Sept. 13 and Anderson Sept. 19 at Anderson. Following that match, the highly anticipated Battle of the Lakes will take place Sept. 24 at Lake Travis High School.

“We want to destroy Lake Travis,” said  Fernanda’s State doubles partner, senior Charles Tan. “They beat us twice last year, and they think they’re better than us, but we’re going to prove them wrong, because they’re really not.”
