Entrepreneurial students talk business

The Westlake Entrepreneur Club is a club where students meet to discuss the creation of business opportunities.

“Innovation and motivation are key,” sponsor James Baker said.

The club fluctuates between 20-30 members and tries to bring in guest speakers to talk about their success in the business world and to brainstorm ideas with the club.

“Multimillionaire entrepreneurs have made themselves available to our group,” Baker said.

Club president sophomore Tom Gong has taken his interest in entrepreneurial ventures and has created a website that allows people to browse events in their area.

“It’s like twitter, but instead of following other people you follow events,” Tom said.

The events are all on a map and the people who create the events can send out notifications to their followers.

He is also working with the club to start a tutor matching business.

“We’re finding people who excel in certain subjects who would like to be a tutor, and later we will start finding people who want tutoring,” Tom said. “The people who want tutoring will get matched with the tutors.”

Any student motivated by success or the idea to create a business should join the club. They meet every Wednesday after school in Baker’s room 215.
