The Chaps celebrate their teammate’s home run while playing against Austin High on March 25.

The girls varsity softball team has been working hard throughout this season. They have played in two tournaments, including one at Westlake and one at Woodlands. The team began District play on March 5. So far the team has an overall record of 14-8 and District record of 6-1, only losing to Bowie in the first game.

“Playing for Westlake is very honorable,” said junior second baseman Tannah Huebinger. “To wear that jersey, you’ve got to represent.”

Senior outfielder Janelle Turnquest has been on the varsity team for four years and is still undecided if she will continue to play in college next year.

“My favorite part about playing for Westlake is [that] we usually have a solid team,” said Janelle. “I’m lucky to play here and have good competition with my teammates.”

The team’s next game will be against Anderson on Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at Westlake.

“I think the rest of District is going to be a breeze for us,” Tannah said. “But playoffs is going to be challenging.”
