The varsity boys soccer team started its season early in January. It played in the Klein Showcase in Houston Jan. 9-11 tying two of its games and losing the third to the number one team in the state and number 10 in the nation, Coppell High School. The team also played Jan. 16-18 in Georgetown in the Governor’s Cup where it tied one game and lost two. It began its District slate against Bowie on Jan. 29 at home and tied 1-1. Currently the team has an overall record 2-3-4 going into the second game of District play. Despite the slow start, coach John Campbell has hopes for the near future.

“I think we’re close to turning the corner,” Campbell said. “We lost a few [players] to injuries this weekend and a few to eligibility. So I think once we get everybody back, we’ll be able to put things together. I think we’ll be much better and that we’ll be very competitive for the District title.”

The Chaps’ next game will be against Anderson at 7:45 p.m. Feb. 4 at home. The team will play each District competitor twice.

“Our team is ready to put to work what we have been practicing for the last three months,” team captain senior Jacob Peplinski said.
