Freshman boys basketball teams go undefeated in District play; both to play Jan. 11 at Austin High

The freshman boys basketball teams are faring well so far this season. With the red team fighting strong alongside an undefeated blue team, they work toward their second round of District play which starts at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at Lake Travis.

The boys freshman red team has charged into District play with an undefeated record. The team has beat Anderson 50-38, Del Valle 59-25 and Lake Travis 59-48.  The team did fairly well in pre-District  with a record of 2-3. They beat New Braunfels 58-31 and San Marcos 49-45. The three losses were extremely close, one of which went into double overtime (OT) resulting in a loss to Manor 80-81. The Cedar Park game also went into OT but ended with a 53-55 loss. The game against Round Rock was a close loss of 39-40. The team placed third in its two pre-District tournaments. In the Georgetown Tournament they beat Eastview and Lake Travis, but lost to Anderson. In the Manor Tournament they beat Temple and Hutto, but lost to Elgin. The team will now go on to play at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 11 at Austin High.

“We are making our way through District well,” freshman Jack Pence said. “We plan to continue to win and finish in first place.”

The freshman blue boys basketball team is undefeated so far. The team is in pre-District has beat New Braunfels 87-22, San Marcos 52-38 and Round Rock 47-38. In District they have beat Del Valle 70-16, Lake Travis 70-46 and Anderson 52-26. They have crushed the competition, winning by at least 9 points every time. Before District, the team also played in the Hays Tournament and won first place by beating Crockett and Hays at the beginning of the season. The team is moving forward to play at 11 a.m. Jan. 11 at Austin High.

“Under the legendary coaching of Coach [Alex] Owen, the B team is going on an undefeated run, and our power can’t be stopped,” freshman Ely Knaupe said.
