Varsity baseball kicks off their season today at 2:30 against Waxahachie at Woerner field
The top of the first was three up three out for the indians. Westlake got their first hit in the bottom of the first from senior Lance Hayashi’s single before the inning was retired.
Waxahachie capitalized off of a sacrifice out after a runner stole two bases at the top of the second inning. The inning ended with Sophomore Kai Covert making a diving play and forcing an out at first base. 1-0 Waxahachie
the chaps and indians traded outs in the bottom of second and top of the third. Covert then hit a double just inside the foul line at the bottom of the third and stole another base off a wild pitch and then came home off an RBI single from senior Austin Knox to equalize the score. The side ended with Hayashi getting caught stealing. 1-1
Waxahachie scored in the top of the fourth off a wild pitch and inaccurate throw up to go up 2-1. After a scoreless inning, senior Gunnar Dunlop came in to relieve senior starting pitcher Parker Saltsman.
Waxahachie scored off a wild pitch and another inaccurate throw home from behind the plate to go up 3-1 in the top of the sixth.
The chaps’ offense ended the bottom of the seventh hitless and scoreless to start the season 0-1. They will take on Keller back at home at 7:30 PM.
