Westlake Golf Dominates at the First Tournament of the Year

Starting the year strong, the Westlake junior varsity golf team took a monopoly victory over Vandegrift High School at Riverplace Country Club. All JV teams from both schools played, with each school put in multiple teams of five into the tournament to compete against each other. Westlake’s Team One took first out of five, Team Two got second and Team Three got third. On the solo side, four out of five of the individual winners were from Westlake, with junior Max McWilliams in second, freshman Lachlan Bailey in third, and junior Parker Gates in fourth, marking a great start for Westlake golf and for Coach Nokes and Griggs.

“The spirits were really high coming into the tournament,” JV junior Parker Gates said. “This was a great way to start the year.”

Last year Nokes led the team to the state championships defending their four year winning streak and taking home their fifth consecutive state championship. He was also named the National Golf Coach of the year by the National High School Coaches Association. This landslide win by JV boasts an impressive future for Westlake golf and hopefully foreshadows how Varsity will do this year.

“JV players like Parker are dogs on the course,” said varsity player and current junior Jack Lorenz. “I’m excited to see what we can do this year!”

All JV teams and the Varsity Three Team will compete next Monday at Lions municipal course.
