Elon Musk activates Starlink in Ukraine following invasion
Elon Musk has activated Starlink in Ukraine, which is currently undergoing a full-scale invasion by Russia, tweeting “Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route.”
This followed Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov plead for aid on Twitter after accusing Russia of targeting civilians with missiles.
Ukraine has been the target of cyberattacks by Russia as its attacker tries to shut off Ukraine from the rest of the world. This would give Russia an extremely strong upper hand in intelligence and almost guarantee a victory over Ukraine. Musk’s actions give Ukraine a foothold in its battles, as Starlink can be used for things like phone calls to drone strikes. It’s actual effectiveness is still yet to be seen, but onlookers will most likely see almost immediate results in Ukraine’s defense and possible offense.
