Stranger Things is a brilliant, compelling science fiction TV show that blew people away after its release on Netflix in 2016. Its success led to the release of a second season in 2017. After binge watching both seasons in two days, I was delighted to find out that a third season is going to be released July 4.

The show takes place in Hawkins, Indiana, in the 1980s. Season one follows the investigation into the disappearance of a boy named Will Byers, played by Noah Schnapp. As the season progresses it is clear that this is not a normal disappearance, it’s supernatural. Viewers are thrown into another dimension with a huge cover-up by the government, a monster and a girl with psychokinetic abilities named Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown. And It just gets stranger from there. We are introduced to many important characters, including Will’s mother, Joyce Byers, played by Winona Ryder, Will’s brother, Jonathan Byers, played by Charlie Heaton, and Will’s friends: Mike, Dustin and Lucas, played by Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin, respectively. Season two takes place a year later with many of the same characters but also some new ones, including Max Mayfield, played by Sadie Sink, who is a new friend of the group. They battle similar monsters from the other dimension in this season.

When I saw the very first episode, I was hooked. This show is so riveting that I ended up watching the entire first season within a day. It drew me in with the intense, suspenseful plot and the spectacular visuals. The characters were interesting, and I could really feel myself connecting with them. Overall, this show is a piece of cinematic beauty and excellence.

Of course, there were a lot of unanswered questions at the end of the season two. Eleven was absent during most of the second season, so she never really got to meet Max. So, many people are wondering what their new relationship will be like. Also, at the end of the season it seems like everything is resolved, but the very last scene shows the huge monster, known as the Mind Flayer, looming over the town in the other dimension. Obviously, that evokes some questions. Will the monster attack the town? How will they defeat the monster? What problems will it bring? I think that the new season will probably show them defeating the monster.

We know a few things about the new season. We know quite a bit of time has passed since the last season, and it’s also in the summer, so we will get to see how the kids spend their time outside of school. A trailer was recently released March 20. As soon as I heard about it, I nearly broke my keyboard looking it up on YouTube.

The trailer opens with a scene of Dustin returning home from somewhere, and the rest of the gang surprising him. It is a humorous, light-hearted opening to the trailer, and we get to see our favorite characters again. It then cuts to scenes of the entire group of kids hanging out together and shows multiple shots of all the returning characters. We also see a bunch of protesters with signs standing in front of a government building, but it’s hard to tell what they’re protesting and how significant that will be. It’s pretty difficult to follow, but there are small clips of all the characters either running, fighting, injured or upset. Finally, at the very end, there’s a shot of Eleven fighting a crazy, terrifying monster that we’ve never seen before.

Although there are no shots of the Mind Flayer from the previous season, we do get a little insight into Max and Eleven’s relationship. There are many shots of them hanging out together and enjoying each other’s presence, so we can conclude that they end up becoming good friends. Also, there was one shot of that crazy new monster, leading us to believe that the Mind Flayer is not the only creature they have to defeat in the season.

In all, the trailer didn’t reveal much, but it was enough to make all the fans ache for more. I was excited to see all my favorite characters returning, and based on the content of the trailer, it looks like this will be an action-packed season. All the characters are fighting some supernatural force, it’s just hard to figure out what it is. We still don’t know a lot about the new season, but I think it will be just as amazing as the previous ones.
