Sports gambling column: Week 21

Wow. Not having any NFL games to gamble on really sucks. Luckily, football is (sort of) back with the Alliance of American Football (AAFL), but I don’t know nearly enough about the players, teams, and rules to gamble on those games. The NFL is typically my bread and butter, so I feel for those people that have to go on gambling talk shows for a living and talk about what to bet on during this time of the year. This is really the dead zone, because college basketball isn’t interesting yet, and the NBA hasn’t started to heat up either. Even baseball fans are bored right now. I may have to start betting on NBA money lines, but I never feel good about doing that given all the rest that teams give their players nowadays. If I do that, I’m going to make sure I’m betting on a game that I’ll actually watch and one that is nationally televised.

Just scrolling through Bovada, I’m tempted to put some money on the Warriors to win the NBA championship at -230 odds, but a $10 bet on that would only win me around $4, so I’d rather wait and find a Eastern Conference team that I really like. That team might just be the Bucks, who have the best record in the whole league and have been running through most of the teams in the East so far. Their odds are only +185, so I think I’m going to wait and see if those improve before I put any money down. Next week, I’ll have some bets on the Oscars, which is always fun.
