Hyline completes contest season, prepares for Zenith

Hyline won every category it entered Feb. 11 at Westwood High School’s annual dance competition.

“[We won] best in contest for the team and the officers, best in medium ensemble, best solo in super teen category, and platinum,” sophomore Carlisle Terry said. “It felt so good to win. All of the hard work was so worth it.”

Then on Feb. 18 the team traveled to McNeil High School.

Contest season is very important to the Hyline members, and they train hard to get good results.

“Contest rehearsals are pretty intense,” director Lindsay Joe said. “Contest season is the season where our dancing needs to be the most polished. This makes for very focused and exhausting practices.”

During competition season, the team is together almost every morning and weekends. This helps them bond and perform better as an overall team.

“We definitely move much more as a cohesive group because of how close we are to each other,” senior Maddie Holmes said. “It’s almost like we feed off of one another because of the bond our team has.”

Even though contest season is over, Zenith is coming up April 20-22 for the entire dance department. Tickets go on sale at 8 a.m. April 3 online. This year’s theme is 17 in ‘17. All dance groups along with special guests performers will be showcased.

“I’m excited because it’ll be my first real Zenith and the last time all of us dance together,” Carlisle said. “All of the dances seem so fun and the theme is super fun!”
