Student Council prepares for spring pep rally

Spring forward into Student Council’s upcoming pep rally, which will take place during school on Feb. 27 in the competition gym. Knowing the spring sports don’t get enough recognition, Student Council wants to recognize them and UIL teams. Along with the usual games and showing off senior dominance, StuCo is also trying to raise money for a local charity, Mobile Loaves & Fishes. This charity provides food and shelter for the homeless around Austin.

“The main reason Student Council is helping out with the charity is to give back to the community and help out as much as we possibly can,” Student Council president senior Will Furst said.

To help raise the money for Mobile Loaves & Fishes, StuCo has enlisted the student body as well as the teachers to donate. As a way to collect money, the top four teachers who acquire the most funds will compete in a sumo match during the pep rally. Their main goal is to raise at least $10,000 for the charity to build a house for a homeless person. If everyone in Westlake donates a minimum of $4,StuCo can reach the $10,000 goal.

“Lake Travis did the same thing in the fall and raised $17,000, hopefully we can all come together and raise enough money for the charity,” WIll said.
