Model United Nations wins best large delegation at most recent conference

Model United Nations just returned from winter break, but they are already back in full swing. Twenty-four members attended a conference in San Antonio from Jan. 8-9.

“I am extremely proud of not only our experienced delegates but also our novices because they learned quickly,” Vice President senior Dwight Fan said.

Winners from this conference included junior Zach Stoebner, sophomore Ben Roberts and Officer of International Affairs senior Ben Lear who won Best Delegate, sophomore Jason Zhao who won Distinguished Delegate and Dwight, freshman Ruy Martinez and junior Kayla Savage who won Honorable Delegate.

“I was kind of surprised that I won,” Ben said. “I didn’t go in expecting to win because it was such a large committee, so I’m proud, I guess.”

Westlake also received the honor of Best Large Delegation at this conference.

“It was a very proud movement for us because we struggled early on,” Jason said. “A lot of new delegates won high awards, so it was a turning point for us. Everyone contributed to the total, it made us feel like everyone was part of a big team.”

The team will move on to conferences in Houston, Duke University and then San Antonio again.
