Girls basketball team off to a quick start

The girls varsity basketball team is off to a strong start, beating Lehman High School 70-35 win, followed by another 63-51 win against Anderson.

“[The game against Anderson] was good; we won. They were a really talented team and we were behind at fourth quarter and we did a really good job of coming back,” head coach Katie Hensle said.

Over winter break, the girls basketball team played against Cedar Ridge, the number two team in the state, and won by three points.

“We’ve played really well,” coach Hensle said. “We’re tied for second in District, and over the Christmas break we beat the number two team in the state that nobody thought we could beat. We’ve lost two games so far, but hopefully we can beat those teams a second time around.”

With a big second game against Bowie coming up right around the corner, at 7 p.m. Jan. 23, the girls basketball team continues to work hard and encourage each other along the way.

“Everyone’s friends on the team and we have great chemistry playing together,” guard senior Carly Anderson said. “Even if you’re having a bad day, the girls will pick you up and cheer for you when you need it most, which really helps.”
