Club offers students the experience of the stock market
The Stock Market Club is formed solely for the purpose of competing in the Stock Market Game, which takes place nationwide in the fall and the spring. There are very few meetings held, since members of the club, 16 this year, have already formed individual teams, but they currently have a Facebook group that provides notifications with information about the club. While the fall competition, from Sept. 29 to Dec. 5, has already started, anyone is welcome to sign up for the spring competition. The teams collectively represent Westlake, which is part of the Central Texas region along with about 170 other teams.
“This game establishes an atmosphere that mimics real-world trading, and this ultimately allows members to see what risks are involved and learn about the more finer points in trading that may be overlooked,” co-president junior Nilen Patel said.
