Last week, the editors of Westlake’s yearbook, El Paisano, travelled to New York City to receive the prestigious Silver Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for the 2012-2013 yearbook.

“It was awesome,” editor-in-chief senior Hanna King said. “We all got to go up there and accept the award. We were pretty much famous.”

The award is an special honor to the editors who helped create the issue last year as juniors.

“I was a sports editor last year, so being able to get an award was really cool,” editor senior Cody Ross said. “It just shows all the hard work payed off.”

The staff couldn’t celebrate for long however, as they are in the the last few stages of finishing up and editing the proofs (drafts of the final yearbook) in preparation for this year’s distribution day.
“Proofs are coming slowly,” Hanna said. “I’m the editor-in-chief, so I’m a lot more involved [this year] and I have to look at pretty much every spread. It’s 10,000 times more work, but it’s fun. We have to work on them a lot, but they are improving.”
