Grey’s Anatomy: The perfect show to waste your summer watching

Obsessed. That is the word that comes to mind at the mention of Grey’s Anatomy. I have not had a free weekend since the beginning of April, but not because I am so outrageously popular and have friends fighting over me for weekend plans. Instead, I have been sitting in front of my television in a dark room, watching hours of Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix.

The main character, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), starts the series as a surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital along with Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), George O’Malley (T. R. Knight), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). The show focuses on the professional and personal lives of these five interns (and eventual residents). Created by Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy first aired on ABC in March of 2005, and is now currently in its ninth season. The series won the 2007 Golden Globe award for Best Television Series-Drama and has had many Emmy nominations. The show airs on ABC on Thursday nights at 8 p.m.

Grey’s Anatomy is a perfect combination of personal and medical drama. Each episode has its own story line with different patients and medical issues while still including the personal lives of the surgeons. With marriages, deaths and scandals every episode is exciting and dramatic. Throughout the six seasons I have already watched, I have both loved and hated almost every character. I have to admit, I have cried, yelled and expressed many other emotions on my journey through the various seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. Most of the tears I mentioned earlier occurred when characters that I absolutely love leave the show in various ways, leaving me feeling sad and alone. But soon enough, new characters find their way into my heart.

Not only do I love Grey’s Anatomy, but my mom does too. Although my mom doesn’t spend hours on end in front of the television, she is watching the current season and still loves the show as much as she did in 2005.

With summer coming up, you are going to have an abundance of free time on your hands. And what better way to spend that time than sitting in front of the television? With eight full seasons on Netflix, you’ll never be left without episodes to spend your days watching. I highly recommend watching Grey’s Anatomy to anyone looking for an exciting, unforgettable summer.
