The final episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty airs Wednesday and fans can’t stop talking about what might happen. The series, based on Jenny Han’s popular novels, has followed Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah through summers full of love and heartbreak. Now, with the finale approaching, many are wondering how the love triangle might finally be resolved and what lessons the characters will carry with them beyond Cousins Beach.
Throughout the season, Belly has struggled with her feelings for both brothers. Her moments with Jeremiah have shown a sense of comfort, while her history with Conrad has revealed a deeper, sometimes more complicated connection. After all the drama, the finale will have to tie together years of growth for all of the characters.
Spanish teacher Susan Grombacher is a fan of the series, and she finds deeper meaning in the setting of the story.
“We’ll always have Cousins Beach refers not just to Cousins Beach but the concept that you will always have what you have, not just with the character in the book but you will always have your memories,” Grombacher said.
According to Grombacher, Cousins Beach represents more than just a backdrop. It’s a place of memories that define Belly’s summers. The biggest debate, however, is about Jeremiah and Conrad, and who Belly will end up with. Many fans want to see Jeremiah grow as a character after seasons of being the more “easy-going” brother compared to Conrad’s responsibility.
“Hopefully Jeremiah will get a little bit tougher and face his family,” fan junior Lili Ivin said.
Jeremiah has often avoided conflict, so people are hoping the finale will show him stepping up. On the other hand, Grombacher believes Jeremiah’s arc may not end with romance or Belly at all.
“I feel like Jeremiah is going to have a complete change of heart and realize that Belly was made for Conrad,” Grombacher said.
Still, the ending may not be as simple as choosing between two brothers. Belly has been learning to make choices for herself, and some fans believe the finale could focus on her independence.
“She might follow what others expect and choose Conrad, or on the other hand, she might let him go and pick summer,” Ivin said.
With Belly’s canceled wedding and her shift toward focusing on the future, it’s possible Belly’s decision won’t be about love at all but about growth. For those who have read the books, the direction of the finale may already be clear. Grombacher connected the story to a key moment in the original series.
“That’s what she ended up doing by canceling the wedding and moving forward in episode 10,” Grombacher said.
This suggests that the show could mirror Belly’s decision to let go of expectations and move on from the complicated love triangle. With Jeremiah’s possible growth, Conrad’s quiet but consistent love for Belly, and Belly’s chance to step into her own future, the finale promises to be emotional.
No matter who Belly chooses, or if she chooses anyone at all, fans agree the ending will be about more than romance. Cousins Beach will remain a symbol of friendship, love and memories that last even after the summer fades.
