With coats slipping off the hangers and racks crammed with clothes, the thrift store held pieces that senior Cameron Lindsey was eager to discover. For Lindsey, thrifting was an adventure; it was all about digging for hidden gems in the layers of clothes. Unique, vintage pieces awaited her.
A form of self expression, thrifting is one of Lindsey’s hobbies. She loves the surprises that wait for her each and every time. Her favorite pieces are typically quirky, old-timey items that she can express herself through. Originally, her interest in thrifting stemmed from curiosity.
”When [thrifting] started becoming more popular, I wanted to see what the hype was about,” Lindsey said. “I remember the first time I went to the Goodwill [with the mindset of thrifting] was with my grandparents.”
Lindsey usually thrifts on the weekends with friends. Although her friends have diverse styles, they all share a passion for hunting for the perfect piece.
“I like to thrift … at Pavement, Buffalo Exchange, and Uptown Cheapskate,” Lindsey said.
Lindsey also believes in thrifting and its benefits for the planet.
“I think thrifting is good because it reduces the amount of fast fashion being consumed, which is a big global warming contributor,” Lindsey said.
Lindsey appreciates the way thrifting evolves as she does.
“I will continue to thrift because I enjoy shopping and finding new vintage and unique pieces for my wardrobe, especially as my style matures,” Lindsey said.
