With a sport that requires him to tread water for 30-60 minutes, it’s no wonder that freshman Reid Askins practices drills every day in order to keep up with the demands of playing water polo.
“The more you play, the better you get,” Askins said.
Askins has been playing water polo for four years. When he moved to Westlake from north Austin, he was excited to be able to continue his passion on his new school’s team.
“There are a lot of sports combined into one to make water polo; basketball, soccer, and swimming,” Askins said.
Askins is getting all he can from water polo now, and only plans to continue recreationally past high school.
“It’s very fun and unique and you get to meet a lot of new people,” Askins said. “A lot of colleges don’t have water polo teams.” Thankfully, he has a pool in his yard and friends from the team….maybe some backyard matches are in his post-high school future.
