Varsity Tennis Team Plays Bowie
Westlake Varsity tennis players Patrick Beckage (senior) and Denver Holden (senior) finished in winning fashion during their doubles match Tuesday Sept. 27 facing Bowie. Playing at home, the two worked efficiently together and breezed past the opponent with a 6-1 win.
Despite a rather slow and equal start from both sides, the teammates quickly found their rhythm and looked more coordinated as the match progressed. Serving issues and simple mistakes from the Bowie players gave the teammates leverage and ultimately contributed to the win. Regardless, the two were dominant in all aspects of the match and made it difficult for Bowie to catch up with the continuous scoring.
“Denver and I always keep a great mindset while playing together,” Patrick said. “We are communicative and make sure to never back down when we face adversity.”
Luckily, the teammates didn’t face much adversity and were able to stay on top for the majority of the match. Mistakes made by Bowie caused great frustration and evidently messed up the game for the opponents.
“I hope we can build off of this win and continue to see success as the season goes on,” Patrick said. “I just want to go to state and bring home a championship for Westlake.”
The Varsity team will host their next opponent Anderson High School this Friday as they celebrate senior night.
