High Hopes for Hyline Contest Season
After many years of success in contests, Hyline prepares for their most intense season with standards high. While Hyline did not win ‘Grand Champion’ at last year’s contest at Timber Creek High School in Fort Worth, they did two years ago and are hoping to win the title back. The ‘Grand Champion’ title is awarded to the best team at contest overall, regardless of size and age.
“Contest season is so much fun because it’s the time of the year when the team bonds the most as sisters,” senior Maddie Crowley said. “The long hours are totally worth it in the end.”
This year, there are two contests that Hyline will bring eight group dances to. The team is bringing three officer pieces, the Jazz and Funky company dances, and the team jazz, lyrical and modern routines. The first contest is on Feb. 21 at Timber Creek High School and the second contest is on Feb. 28 at Vandergrift High School.
“We are very much looking forward to a great contest season this year,” assistant director Lauren Smith said. “We are off to a wonderful start; people are working very hard and the dances are coming a very long way. We hope to do well and be successful and win at contest, but more importantly to do our personal best.”
