Freshman girls basketball team suffers tough losses
This season has been tough for the freshman girls basketball team. But despite the losses in all except one game so far, the team continues to work hard and improve. The Chaps started off the season with a 5-63 loss against Round Rock, followed by another 28-54 loss against Anderson. But these defeats have never lessened their spirits.
“We are practicing a lot of new plays and trying to simulate game situations,” freshman Jenna Vasek said. “We practice every weekday and on Saturdays.”
This hard work was shown when the Chaps won 44-39 against Akins on Jan. 11.
“They have really raised the level of expectations for themselves,” coach Eric Lugo said. “Hopefully in the second round of district games, we’ll pull out some more wins.”
With a big game at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 16 against District rival Austin High coming up, the Chaps continue to train hard, their teamwork advancing along with their skill.
“Everyone is really close,” Jenna said. “We try to encourage teammates whenever possible, like when they are having a bad day, or when they do a good job during one of the games.”
