Westlake tennis goes undefeated
The tennis team has been undefeated so far this year. It won its most recent match-up against Lake Travis 10-1 at the Area Championship, and will compete in Region on Oct. 30-31 in Mansfield.
“It was kind of a big deal because we lost to [Lake Travis] last year, but we beat them three times this year,” senior Charles Tan said. “So even though we beat them kind of easily, it was a big deal because we’re rivals.”
The team is expected to do well this year, and Charles believes that they even have a shot at winning State.
“I think we can get out of Region for sure if we beat Highland Park, and I think that we can definitely make a run for the State title,” Charles said.
Senior Fernanda Contreras said that she believes the team has done very well so far, and looks forward to the opportunity to work further with her teammates.
“I’m really proud of the team,” Fernanda said. “We’ve worked really hard this year. I don’t care how far we go unless we go there together. It’s a bittersweet feeling because I want to leave and go to college, but I am going to miss everyone a lot.”
The date and place of the State tournament is yet to be determined.
