Juniors and seniors prepare for upcoming prom

Junior and senior boys are once again thinking of the most creative ways to ask a girl to prom. It is that time of the year and everyone is getting excited. Each year the prom committee works for months ahead to plan a fun and unforgettable night. In past years the prom committee has planned “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” and “Vegas” themed proms. They work hard to incorporate every single detail to the theme, from the lights, music and scenery, down to what the ticket will look like.

This year’s prom is from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. May 17 at the Austin Convention Center. Tickets are $50 per person and will go on sale May 5-16in room 321. As usual, freshmen cannot attend unless they are invited by a current junior or senior and receive special permission from principal Dr. John Carter. Information regarding inviting someone from a different school will be available as prom gets closer. The prom is mostly paid for through ticket sales as well as a budget given from the school. To top off the craze of “The Great Gatsby,” the prom theme this year is “A Gatsby Affair.” This highlights the roaring ‘20s, with period-appropriate decorations and music.

“I think people will have a lot of fun with the Gatsby them,” prom committee member junior Ava Palmo said. “I hope all the juniors and seniors enjoy themselves.”

Nominations for this year’s king and queen will start the week of April 21.
