Girls varsity soccer team wins District, continues into playoffs
The girls varsity team finished its undefeated District season last week with a 2-0 win over Lake Travis on March 18 and a 6-0 win over Austin High on March 21. Not only did the girls finish the season as District Champions with a record of 12-0, the team also achieved a shutout season by not allowing any District team to score a goal.
“Coach [Rennie] Rebe pushed us really hard this season, but all the hard work paid off when we won District,” junior Somer Rose said. “We’ve never been a closer team than we are this season and I think that’s one of the reasons why we have been so successful.”
The girls scrimmaged Belton High School on March 24 in order to prepare for their upcoming playoff games. They won the game 4-1 in a penalty shootout after tieing 0-0 in regulation time. The first playoff game will be against Hendrickson High School. If they win this game, they will be Bi-District champions and will then compete to be Area champions.
“I am really excited for playoffs because it’s a chance for us to play [against] better opponents and improve as a team,” senior Maddie Pellman said. “As long as we take every game seriously and work together, I’m sure we’ll make it far.”
