The Latin Club attended the Latin State Convention April 12-13 in Flower Mound, Texas with 113 members, the largest contingent so far from Westlake. They joined approximately 2,000 Latin students from other Texas schools.
The Intermediate Certamen Team, with freshman Saarila Kenkare representing Westlake, came in second place.
The Advanced Certamen Team, with senior Owen Smitherman and sophomore Laura Bryant representing Westlake, came in third place.
Westlake won 664 overall Sweepstakes Points and also placed fifth in State, the highest rank for all public and private Austin-area schools.
“Westlake has a really great Latin club,” junior Sarah Thompson said. “I’m really proud that we took fifth, and we are going to do even better next year.”
