South Congress. It is the heart of Austin, constantly visited by people looking at the dozens of eclectic stores. Nestled in between New Bohemia and the tent market is one of my favorite stores on South Congress, the South Congress Book Store.
This book store has all sorts of books from every different genre and topic. Different sections of the store are marked by wooden signs hanging from the ceiling. There are sections for fiction, rare books, kids books, music and more.
The book store is an antiquated place. It has a musty smell of paper and wood, with old shelves and a high ceiling with an old air conditioning system. The books add to the vintage ambiance of the store, especially the books with rarer or older cover designs and older styled print. The staff is very nice and helpful and make the book store a comfortable place. The store is not usually crowded with people. In fact, it’s pretty quiet, which makes it a peaceful place to be.
The books at this store are in commendable condition. The pages are not ripped or stained, and the covers are fully intact. Although, with their good quality, the books could be more expensive, they are fairly priced, with the exception of the rare books, which are expensive. That being said, the rare books section is extensive and has some amazing books that are worth the high price range.
The South Congress Book Store is open all week. On Monday- Friday and on Saturdays it is open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and on Sundays it is open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. I would definitely recommend this store for anyone visiting South Congress. It is definitely worth the trip.
